At Heat Pumps Northampton, we cover Wellingborough and help homeowners explore air source heating options for a wide range of properties. Whether you are upgrading an established family home, renovating a terrace or considering improvements to a newer house, we focus on making the heating design appropriate to the building.
We understand that switching away from a conventional boiler raises questions about cost, comfort, hot water and installation disruption. We explain what a heat pump can do and what needs checking before a system is recommended.
Wellingborough has older properties around the town centre, traditional residential streets, family housing and newer developments on the outskirts. A period terrace can have very different heating requirements from a recently built detached home.
Existing insulation, windows, radiators and room sizes influence heat loss. A property with larger rooms or greater exposure may need more heating output than a better-insulated home of similar floor area. We believe those differences should be calculated rather than guessed.
A heat pump installation involves more than the outdoor equipment. An air-to-water system also needs compatible radiators or underfloor heating, suitable controls and a hot water arrangement. The position of the outdoor unit affects airflow, pipe routes, sound and maintenance access.
We discuss the work that may be required inside and outside the home. In some houses, existing radiators may be sufficient. In others, selected upgrades or insulation improvements may be worth considering. A detailed design helps clarify the likely scope before a quotation is accepted.
Qualifying property owners can receive financial support through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. The standard eligible air-to-water heat pump grant is currently £7,500. Certain qualifying off-gas-grid oil or LPG replacements may receive £9,000 under temporary rules applying until 31 March 2027.
An MCS-certified installer must handle a BUS application, and the property must meet the relevant eligibility conditions. We help homeowners understand what needs to be checked and how the proposed grant should be shown against the installation cost.
Some Wellingborough households are also interested in producing their own electricity. Rooftop solar panels can supply power during daylight hours, and compatible battery systems may help households use more of their generated electricity later.
We consider roof condition, direction, shading, household electricity consumption and the cost of equipment. Solar generation is seasonal, so realistic expectations matter, particularly when a property also uses an electric heating system.
